New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer on Monday announced the pre-litigation settlement in relation to the 43-year-old's chokehold death in NYPD custody last July.
Having left Herbert Smith after 37 years, including a spell as its senior partner between 2005 and 2010, Lord Gold set up David Gold & Associates, which is advertised on its website as a provider of "high-level strategic litigation advice, particularly in relation to settlement".
It highlights the increased risk of disease outbreak in intensive farming enterprises; the potential for litigation, bans or fines in relation to water pollution; its reliance on feed inputs with volatile pricing; concerns around staff health and welfare; and the potential for future legislation on methane emissions or antibiotic use.
However, the solicitor general also has a stand-alone function of providing advice in relation to litigation in which the commonwealth is involved.
A spokesperson for the Badger Trust said it was "consulting its lawyers to consider its position in relation to litigation, and in particular the question of timing of any action".
Professionals' concerns in relation to litigation are grounded in their appreciation of the legal duty of care which they owe to their patients which is, in turn, reinforced by professional Codes of Practice.
Neither party will be making any further comment in relation to the litigation or matters raised therein".
"The laws are excessive, unnecessary and are likely to be misused," says lawyer Anna Brown, who advised on the Charter in relation to the conduct of human rights litigation.
