Google's Nexus line of devices shows off Google's latest mobile software.
It reported that it had 923,000 customers, most of them through its T-Mobile Sidekick line of devices.
HTC also confirmed that it would be updating its HTC One line of devices, including the new One Max phablet to Android 4.4 Kitkat, with the HTC One seeing the update within 90 days.
While the G1 is expected to compete with high-end smartphones like the iPhone and the BlackBerry line of devices made by Research in Motion, Google's aims are far different from those of its rivals.
Lynn Fox, a spokeswoman for Palm, played down the importance of the Pre itself, saying it was the first "in a long line" of devices that will use Palm's new mobile operating system.
Amazon sees the Kindle line of devices as critical for its future as a virtual store, and is willing to lose money on the sale of each one for the sake of market share.
Still, LG has high hopes that the G Flex might be the forerunner of a new line of devices that could help it compete more effectively against Samsung and Apple, the two dominant smartphone providers.
The new smartphone succeeds Google's Nexus line of devices and the company claims that the Pixel is now 100% Google, unlike the Nexus devices where Google provided the software and had some input into the devices but not total control.
