By visually interpreting the satellite imagery, the lineaments of the study area are picked up and traced on the basis of tonal, textural, soil, vegetation, topographic and drainage linearity, curvilinear ties and rectilinear ties (Lilesand 1989; Drury 1990; Gupta 1991).

To extract the lineament of the study area, the PCI Geomatica 2013 version was used.

The analogue geological and lineament maps of the study area obtained from Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) with scale 1 100,000 were georeferenced and digitized in ArcGIS 10.0 software platform.

The density of lineaments in the study area is attributable to the high fracturing that affected the Basement Complex area during the Pan-African orogenic cycle.

Based upon the variation in magnetic lineaments, structural map of the study area was obtained.

As a default procedure, the program defines a window whose size depends on the mode value of the length distribution of the lineaments in the study area.

The lineament extracted from Landsat 5 image is shown in Fig. 2 and the lineament density map of the study area is shown in Fig. 3.
