Europe's largest biotechnology company, Serono, reported $320.8 million in 2002 profit, an increase of 1.3percentt from 2001, in part because of costs of phasing out the company's first big success, a line of fertility treatments made from purified urine, which have been eclipsed by newer products.
Comparing the case of Baofeng Village and Hewan Village, we find that after meeting the bottom line of fertility culture, family's economic condition is the next important factor that determines people's choice of number of births.
The regenerative effects of the spermatogonial lines on fertility were also apparent upon histological examination of testes from DAZL-deficient recipients at 212 days following transplantation; 57±6.1% (±SE, n = 3) of their seminiferous tubules contained colonies of spermatogenesis that developed to the elongating spermatid stage (Fig. 4).
