Since sleep characteristics and recovery processes can vary over the course of the lifespan, the extent to which sleep disturbance affects recovery in elderly ICU patients remains unclear, as does the nature of the sleep disturbance, particularly in the oldest of old (≥80 years).
They seem to be consistently coexpressed in blood with EIF4A2, a eukaryotic translation initiation factor and DDX18, an ATP-dependent RNA helicase, of which the worm homologs were shown to extent lifespan upon disruption (Curran & Ruvkun, 2007; Smith et al., 2008).
Cinnamomum cassia bark present in both herbal formulas significantly extended mean lifespan to a similar extent (Table 3 and 4).
The extent of lifespan extension will depend on the future discoveries.
Remarkably, the sgk-1 gf) sgk-1 gf increased lifespan by a greater extent in sgk-1(RNAi) than control RNAi animutation 4.4d vs. 2.1d; Fincreased.
However, when this assay was omitted for statistical analysis, we still found that bDR extended WT (N2) lifespan to a larger extent than aak-2 and daf-16 mutant worm lifespan (P < 0.001 by two-way anova).
In two of these experiments, bDR extended WT (N2) lifespan to a larger extent than aak-2 and daf-16 mutant worm lifespan (P < 0.0001 by two-way anova).
Rapamycin was shown to delay cellular senescence [ 61, 62], to extent the lifespan in both male and female mice [ 63] and to suppress brain aging and neurodegeneration in rats [ 24].
Because DR extends lifespan to the same extent in Ames and wild-type mice, it is thought that the mechanisms of Ames longevity assurance are independent of those induced by restricted diet (Bartke et al., 2001).
This last result suggests that when rict-1 mutants are maintained in liquid, neither temperature nor food source influences their lifespan to the dramatic extent seen in plate culture.
However, treatment with the PAC-enriched fraction increased lifespan to a similar extent as the starting BB polyphenol mixture or the remixed fractions (Fig. 4A,B) (PAC, 14.4 ± 0.36 days, P < 0.0001 vs. control; start, 14.8 ± 0.36 days, P < 0.0001; remix, 14.0 ± 0.48 days, P < 0.0001; complete statistics for lifespan trials with PAC-enriched fraction are presented in Table 2).
