In accordance with these results, the expression levels of PLA genes were increased in slender rice 1 (slr1), which is a constitutively active GA signaling mutant, and decreased in slr1-D, which shows reduced sensitivity to GA.
Increased levels of PLA, HPAA and HPLA in serum patients with sepsis, especially with fatal outcome, are associated with development of infectious complications.
Different from CS/siRNA and PLA/siRNA polyplexes which had very low transfection efficiency at physiological pH (7.4), CS/PLA/siRNA polyplex formed by using sufficient amount of CS (i.e., 5 : 1 CS/siRNA) together with noncytotoxic level of PLA (i.e., 0.1 : 1 PLA/siRNA) could silence the gene satisfactorily at both pH 7.4 and 6.4, unaffected by the presence of serum.
Increased levels of phenyllactic acid (PLA), p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (HPAA), p-hydroxyphenyllactic acid (HPLA) and 3-indolacetic acid were revealed in the group of sepsis compared with other groups.
Otherwise the levels of HPAA, HPLA and PLA as 11.6 (3.3 to 33.6) × 10-6 M, 7.5 (3.0 to 14.4) × 10-6 M and 1.8 (1.1 to 4.9) × 10-6 M in all severe sepsis patients were significantly increased versus control groups and versus all other groups (P < 0.0001).
It was worth noting that though PLA increased the levels of ERK1/2 activity in cell transiently transfected with pGPR120-WT expression plasmid, PLA also showed the ability to induce the phosphorylation level of ERK1/2 in the cells transiently transfected with empty plasmid, in which other PUFAs were unable to induce the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.

Correspondingly, chondrocytes cultured in silk and collagen scaffolds maintained higher levels of cartilage matrix than those in PLA, suggesting that these biophysical properties of scaffolds may regulate gene expression and the response to inflammatory stimuli in chondrocytes.
