Conversely, Rac1N and Rac1flox mice revealed significant differences in both tests: in spontaneous alternation, Rac1N mice made less correct alternations (genotype effect, F1,21 = 19.9, P = 0.0002, Fig. 2 I) as confirmed also by comparing Rac1N mice with Syn-Cre and WT mice (genotype effect on control mice, F1,36 = 1.14, P = 0.3, Supplementary Fig. 1 F ).
In fact, this prediction does seem to be true; as an example, I offer evidence from an analogical change that is currently underway in Korean, in which a [t¬] ~ [s] alternation is being generalized to words with less radical alternations (such as [t˺] ~ [t], [t˺] ~ [tʰ] and [t˺] ~ [tʃʰ]).
In another study (Markowski et al. 2002), male and female offspring that were born to Holtzman rats that were exposed to 0.18 μg TCDD/kg were significantly less accurate in cued delayed alternation procedures that were used to examine operant behavior compared with the other two groups (control and 0.54 μg TCDD/kg).
And why do languages sometimes move in the opposite direction, extending alternations and making paradigms less uniform?
At the highest level of incongruence, alternations were experienced in less than 30% of all trials.
