The ability of the carbon to oxidize water was linked to the presence of sulfur and nitrogen containing groups working as chromophores whose electrons are excited by irradiation leaving reactive vacancies (holes) that are able to accept electrons from oxygen in water molecules.
A kinetic model is proposed by assuming the following successive elementary steps: (1) the transfer of Cu II) ions as EDTA chelates CuY2− to the solution leaving reactive and unstable "lone oxide ions" –O2− on CuO with a backward reaction, and this is coupled with (2) the reaction of the "lone oxide ions" with protons to form water.
The coke deposit apparently covered only a certain number of acid sites leaving enough reactive sites for the conversion of CH3Br.

NT-proBNP has incremental prognostic value in older patients, beyond traditional risk markers such as troponin, GRACE score, C reactive protein, left ventricular ejection fraction, diabetes, and renal function, and even in the presence of high levels of the pro-peptide.
The multivariate regression model indicated that NT-proBNP values were positively linked to acute myocardial infarction, New York Heart Association class IV CHF, AF, C-reactive protein, left ventricular mass index, and right atrial diameter (P<0.05 for all).
In each case a hydrogen atom is torn away from the elastomer molecule, leaving a highly reactive carbon atom (the radical) that will couple with another carbon radical to create a stable C−C bond, interlinking different molecules.
More reactive leaving groups are more sensitive to elimination side reaction, especially with increasing temperatures.
