In a nutshell, the curriculum framework is underpinned by six key guiding principles which advocate learning through an integrated approach, play, and interactions with the support from teachers in six learning areas for the holistic development of children.
Indeed, pairwise comparisons using the Wilcoxon Signed-ranks test did not reveal significant differences between learning areas for which teachers expressed the highest and the lowest levels of need (p > .05).05
Following the developmental goals expressed in the Guide, six learning areas for children were identified (physical fitness and health, language, self and society, early mathematics, science and technology, and arts) to promote physical, cognitive and language, affective and social, as well as aesthetic development of young children in Hong Kong (Curriculum Development Council, HKSAR 2006, p.17).
When it comes to specifying achievement standards by grade level for learning areas, it is difficult to do it unambiguously.
Features include personal portfolios for the pupils and shared learning areas, which can be set up for classes, year groups, or collaborative projects.
Based on respondent feedback, key learning areas for future development include program evaluation, emergency preparedness, qualitative research skills, analytical software tools, and priority populations.
