"Flu Trends was never designed to catch only a few dozen cases of flu," Jeremy Ginsberg, lead engineer of the project, wrote in an e-mail message.
"The towers, as they rise, take on a specular skin," said David M. Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the lead architects of the project.
"It's very difficult to predict, especially in traffic, when something will arrive," said Tony Laidig, the lead engineer of the project, known as M.T.A. Bus Time.
"We felt it was our responsibility to let students see the work we put into the story and make a decision themselves," said Annie Gilsdorf, a junior who was the lead writer of the project.
The lead producers of the project -- Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler -- have mounted two recent productions of Mamet plays on Broadway: "Race," which is still running, and "Speed-the-Plow," from last season.
"We're very excited about the successful design of this radiator because it represents a complete breakthrough," said UCI's Payam Heydari, the lead investigator of the project, in a university news release.
