CHICAGO, May 19 (Reuters) - A Michigan meat processing plant has recalled 1.8 million lbs of ground beef for possible contamination with the E.coli bacteria, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service FSISS) announced on Monday.
USDA said Wolverine Packing Co in Detroit is recalling the 1.8 million lbs of ground beef products produced between March 31 and April 18 after FSIS was notified of a case of E.coli 0157 H7 illness on May 12. FSIS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention traced the case to the Wolverine Packing Company.
2 lbs of ground beef (the best you can find) 1 lb steak - I used ribeye this time 3-4 strips of bacon 2 bell peppers 1 big onion 3 15.5 oz cans of beans (I like pintos and kidney beans) 1 or 2 28 oz cans of whole tomatoes (I like fire roasted) 1 or 2 jalapeño peppers Salt 1/2 cup of chili powder Cayenne pepper Black pepper Red pepper flakes 2 tbs each oregano, rosemary, thyme.
Cook 1 lb. of ground beef in a frying pan.
Add 6 sliced scallion whites and 1/2 lbs. of ground beef chuck to the oil.
Add 1/4 cup (60 ml) chia seeds to a lasagna or casserole prepared in a standard casserole dish, or follow these suggestions: Ground meat mixtures for homemade meatballs or burgers can be thickened with 1 or 2 tbsp (15 to 30 ml) chia seeds for each 1 lb (450 g) of ground meat, instead of breadcrumbs.
Combine 1 lb (450 g) of ground beef or bulk sausage, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 tsp (5 ml) of salt, 16 oz (500 ml) of tomato sauce, 1 cup (250 ml) chopped onions, 2 cups (500 ml) shredded mozzarella cheese, and 2 cups (500 ml) cooked rice.
Bulk packages of ground beef weighing 1 lb (450 g) or less may thaw in less than an hour.
Significantly larger quantities of ground beef, like 3 or 4 lb (1350 or 1800 g) bulk packages, may take 48 hours or longer to defrost completely.
