The selected number of A-lines reflects a compromise between improved SNR and reduced layer localization.
In situ hybridization analyses indicated that placenta-specific knocking down of furin had no obvious effect on the development of spongiotrophoblast, but significantly suppressed branching of labyrinth, resulting in a much thinner labyrinth layer, based on the localization of Tpbp mRNA, a marker of spongiotrophoblast layer, and Gcm1 mRNA, a marker for the labyrinth layer (Supplementary Figure 3E).
