For the established medical disorders, there was no significant difference between the ratings assigned to the medicalese and lay name for disease representativeness (mean for medicalese label = 2.51, SE = .89, mean for lay label = 2.67, SE = .09 on a four point scale, F (1,49) = 3.33, p = .08, see Figure 1, center panel).
