PARIS — With accusations of fascism and lying, incompetence and imbecility, the French presidential campaign has been one of the nastiest in memory.
So we find Zinni decades later, toward the end of "Battle Ready," saying he saw, "at a minimum, true dereliction, negligence and irresponsibility; at worst, lying, incompetence and corruption" in the prelude to the Iraq war and in its conduct.
Maybe Hertha BSC 2011-12, The Movie would have been more a successful project for the veteran film-maker: a more farcical, yet bleaker story of lies, counter-lies, incompetence and betrayal, starring another Munich-born protagonist (Markus Babbel) who was both perfect and perfectly miscast for the role.
