Google and Apple couldn't agree on terms for Google to license either element; Google wanted more branding in the app, and to use its Latitude user-tracking service in the app.
In the past, Latitude users could indicate where they were on a map, but the actual business or building they were in remained a mystery.
But again, I'm just not sure that all those Latitude users are sure that they are active Latitude users.
But not so fast — Lee also noted that a full quarter of Latitude users have zero friends.
Other documentation refers to check-in offers for Latitude users (link), but again, nothing that specifically says these offers will show up for users checking in on Google+.
Unfortunately, since there is no mechanism for applications to run in the background on iPhone (which applies to browser-based web apps as well), we're not able to provide continuous background location updates in the same way that we can for Latitude users on Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Window Mobile.
The company apparently sent out an e-mail to some Latitude users this morning, warning them that the service might be giving away their location – which is kind of the whole point of the app – and asking them to check their settings.
Dell, for example, makes three ranges for consumers (Inspiron, XPS, Alienware), three ranges for business users (Latitude, OptiPlex, Precision), and the Vostro range for the soho (small office/home office) market.
French officials also said that Google continued to break privacy rules in operating a mobile app called Latitude, which lets users broadcast their location and pinpoint the whereabouts of friends.
