In this system points from the center of Mars toward the Sun, along (0° longitude, 0° latitude), points along (90°, 0°) and completes the right-handed system and points along (0°, 90°).
In the northern hemisphere, this angle is presented as the azimuth to the local magnetic north if the eastward tangent to the CGM latitude points southward from local east, measured positive to east.
Correspondingly, in the southern hemisphere, it is presented as the azimuth to the local magnetic south if the westward tangent to the CGM latitude points northward from local west, measured positive to west.
This different result has no easy interpretation but it is worth considering that the study cities are located in a narrow range of latitude points and the limited variability may hide the association.
In addition, whereas our data points to an approximate latitude where temperate and tropical patterns for influenza peaks diverge, more robust data with multiple surveillance sites in tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions in India and China are needed to define the exact latitude points for influenza circulation patterns.
