Furthermore, although a clear relationship between the size of UIR and local conservation of orthologous gene order is apparent genome-wide, in that evolutionary instability is associated with larger UIR, this trend is weak (large UIR) or reversed entirely (small UIR) for genes with maintained UIR size (fig. 2 C).

I wanted to write this post to offer a theory as to why the Valley, at large, missed this trend.
