Using the touchscreen in laptop mode confused it and I had to re-dock the tablet to make it work.
It's not as flexible when it's in laptop mode, either; you can't adjust the screen angle.
My problem with its laptop mode was that it seemed slow compared with a standard computer, and its touch pad was a bit awkward.
In laptop mode, it felt a little weird typing as the screen is situated very close to the keys.
And - similar to some other "hybrid" tablets now appearing - the Transformer Book Duet can also be mounted to a keyboard dock to use in laptop mode.
The vast majority of the time you'll be using this in either standard laptop mode or tablet mode.
In short, you should use a mouse if you're using this in laptop mode and the screen/stylus if you must use it in tablet mode.
Some have very unusual features indeed - screens that can be detached or reverse-folded to switch from the clam-shell laptop mode to a tablet, and displays that can slide closer to the user.
But as it was a prototype, we gave it the benefit of the doubt, and the nearly instant switching between tablet and laptop mode was pretty great.
