Our analysis of the mismatched gesture and language pairings, in which either a semantically rich word ("roll" or "swing") was paired with a semantically light gesture (path information only) or vice versa, similarly showed a different pattern for each word.
Arabic Second Language Learning and Effects of Input, Transfer, and Typology provides data-driven empirical findings for a number of basic and high-frequency morphosyntactic structures with two novel typological language pairings, examining Arabic second language acquisition data from adult L1 Chinese- and Russian-speaking learners of Arabic as a foreign language.
Five language pairings occurred more than 30 times (20% of responses); these are shown in Table 3 (first section).
Turning to the other category assimilation tone group, Cantonese, their results suggest that the principles found with Mandarin perceivers may not be fully generalizable to all tone-language pairings (in this case, Thai to Cantonese).
