While there must have been a long tradition of grammarians, the final codification of the language is ascribed to Pāṇini (5th or 6th century bc), whose grammar has remained normative for the correct language ever since.
And, this year, Professor Palmar herself, along with other Indigenous leaders, have been working with the government on the creation of an Institute of Indigenous Languages to help with the codification of Indigenous language alphabets and dictionaries.
