(3) The HCM and German models consider capacity as a function of the roundabout configuration in terms of the number of lanes at entry and in circle.
Another recent project expanded the number of entry lanes at the San Ysidro port of entry, and a new pedestrian crossing is planned to open next year.

Thus critical headways were also distinguished for the inner- and outer circulating lane; for each entry lane, the values of critical headways for the inner circulating lane resulted lower than the corresponding values for the outer circulating lane, whereas the standard deviation showed the opposite trend.

(The San Ysidro border crossing, between San Diego County and Mexico, is the busiest US port of entry. Future construction of new traffic lanes may allow more time for health screenings, when necessary).
