The Sanmendong landslide with a length of 830 m, an area of 2.49 × 105 m2, an average thickness of 22 m and a volume of 5.48 × 105 m3, which is located by the Qinggan river, a tributary of the Yangtze River, is only 4 km away from another famous landslide along the same river: the Qianjiangping landslide.
At every landslide width, the length could be determined, and vice versa.
The model parameters were optimised by taking into account field evidence concerning the final landslide volume, the length and height of the deposit, and the final run-out.
Along the ramp, the landslide has initial width, length, and height of W = 20 km, L = 1 km, and D = 1.2 km.
The Melas Chasma landslide deposit has a length from the base of the VM to the last portion of the deposit of 70 km, i.e., a runout of about 120 km from the upper scar, for an estimated deposition area of 2500 km2.

These shallow landslides have a typical length and width of several meters and a depth of about 1 m.
In this case, while the length of the landslide area is 370 m, the analysis length of the shell element model is 1850 m.
Here, in an area scale, the thickness of the landslide is much smaller than the length.
The form of the landslide was tongue-shaped, with a length of about 350 m and width of 80 120 m (Fig. 6).
