Regarding landslide dam classification, a geomorphic classification scheme proposed by Swanson et al. (1986) might be the earliest one.
Then the seismic landslide hazard classification for the study area was performed according to the displacement size.
According to the landslide dam classification proposed by Costa and Schuster (1988) Fig. 8a) the most common class of Italian dams is the type II, representing 41%% of the total amount.
The classification of landslide dams proposed in this study can be used as a preliminary indicator of dam stability.

The second part, dedicated to the dam and the hydraulic section affected by the landslide, allows a complete classification of the event, characterized using geomorphological, geotechnical and hydrological-hydraulic data.
Satellite and aerial photo interpretation has been extensively carried out in the present study, which are the most common tools used for the detection and classification of landslides.
Few studies have described the use of hyperspectral data for recognition and classification of landslides based on Earth surface characteristics since most of the hyperspectral satellite sensors are still under development (Scaioni et al., 2014).
In order to avoid a complex classification, types of landslide material were simplified, also because rock and debris are always mixed in the landslide deposits.
(4) Using the Canny operator to delineate landslide boundaries based on the classification results of PLS and PNLS, we obtained results consistent with the referenced landslide inventory maps.
