Much of the initial work on microarray data analysis focused on the use of these arrays to measure gene expression [ 22], that is, to infer changes in messenger RNA (mRNA) concentration in cells or tissues, resulting from changing experimental conditions, by hybridizing labeled copies of mRNAs to arrays containing probes for specific gene transcripts.
