We respect the decision of the president, and we know how decisions are taken in the democratic countries.
People want to feel like they know how decisions get made; it's not that everybody needs to agree, but they need to feel heard and understand the decisions.
When we look at group decision-making strategies, it is important for us to know how decisions are being made, and who is making them.
For example, participants expressed a lack of clarity in both the methods of decision making (50%; n = 39) of survey respondents did not know how decisions were made, and the individuals in charge of decision making (50%; n = 39) did not know who was making decisions.
Regulators will insist that they are fully competent to interpret the data, but I agree with Goldacre that in science we need to know how decisions are made and that many thousands of eyes scrutinising evidence are much better than a handful which is why I've always insisted that post-publication peer review is the 'real peer review' (Smith, 2010).
