The Alaska Range merges on its western end with the Aleutian Range between Iliamna Lake and Mount Spurr and extends in a great arc some 600 miles (1,000 km) to the Canadian border at the southeastern end.
South of the High Dam for nearly 150 miles (240 km) to the Sudanese border is a hilly, inhospitable desert wilderness without roads or railroads, with the original river valley flooded by Lake Nasser.
One site, a chicken farm in Hokkerup, was selected for study because of its location close (6 km) to the German border and proximity (<10 km) to an SBV-infected sheep farm in Germany, as reported on March 9 , 2012 by the Friedrich Loeffler Institute surveillance website (www.fli.bund.de).de
Moreover, some of those outbreaks have been notified in very distant regions (>2500 km) from the initial outbreaks and are close (<150 km) to the EU borders [ 15].
Unlike common sage and Greek sage, S. brachyodon is a narrowly endemic species and can be found in only two localities: St. Ilija, the highest peak of the Pelješac Peninsula Croatiaand and Mt. Orjen, located 120 km to the southeast, in the border area of Bosnia and Hercegovina and Montenegro (Barbalić 1956; Abadžić and Šilić 1982; Šilić 1984).
