A quick way to tell the two kinds apart is to look at the second hand.
"In history we belong more to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and to the West, so we have always been kind of apart, this tiny little bubble that didn't really fit completely" in Yugoslavia, said Tanja Pak, a 30-something glass designer, as we drank water mixed with elderflower juice in her Ljubljana boutique.
"After we found out about my son's illness and I was kind of falling apart, my father took me aside and told me, 'You're a fighter, you've been a fighter all your life for people with addictions and disabilities who can't fight for themselves, and now you've got to fight for your son,' " she says.
"They're not glossy, and they're kind of falling apart," Ms. Cosmadopoulos said of her various apartments, as she sat sipping tea at her narrow kitchen table.
They kind of pulled apart.
"It just kind of fell apart," he said.
Very strange, it kind of came apart at the seams.
Marques Johnson, then a freshman U.C.L.A. forward, conceded: "We kind of fell apart.
"As we got older, we kind of drifted apart instead of staying closer," Cunningham said.
