There is no shortage of startups attacking the virtual keyboard space, as you'd expect with so much scope to improve the experience of touchscreen typing.
But the smartphone keyboard space could be set for a shake up as long time player Fleksy gets a new team working full time on the app.
That said, SwiftKey has not gone as far as some startups in the keyboard space when it comes to breaking down the layout.
As well as being constrained by having to make room for the keyboard, space has to be found to accommodate the bevels where BB10's gestures have to start.

Since Swype, and its big rival SwiftKey, made it big, a raft of other keyboards startups have also pushed into the space — offering a smorgasbord of radical alternatives to traditional typing, including invisible keyboards, space-saver keyboards, eyes-free keyboards and (most recently) a tablet-keyboard with floating keys.
Pressing the computer keyboard's space bar then caused the chosen motive to play as if a string section had been unleashed.
In one, they watched a string of digits appear on a screen, and were told to press the keyboard's space bar every time a new digit appeared, unless that digit was a "3".
I'm actually sort of surprised Apple hasn't attempted to do something interesting in the keyboard accessory space.
