Kernel samples were harvested on 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 days after pollination (DAP) and removed from the ear axis of three ears, respectively.
However, this predominantly maternally biased expression pattern of siRNAs in the kernels may not necessarily indicate a delayed activation of siRNA paternal alleles compared with the maternal alleles because more than 99% of the loci that were identified in the endosperm samples were also detected in the kernel samples.
A kernel sampling density is then constructed from these samples which is used as the sampling density in an importance sampling simulation.
