The word 'kerfuffle' is correct and usable in written English.
It is a noun that means a commotion or fuss, often over a trivial matter. Example: There was a bit of a kerfuffle at the party when the music suddenly stopped and everyone thought the power had gone out.
It is a whole lot tighter than the exceptional-circumstances clause that has been causing so much kerfuffle.
