Animals were maintained on one of four experimental diets: (1) calorie-restricted ketogenic (KCR); (2) calorie-restricted normal (NCR); (3) ad libitum ketogenic (KAL); or (4) ad libitum normal (NAL).
Biosynthesis of VLCFAs is catalyzed by the fatty acyl-CoA elongase, a membrane-bound enzymatic complex containing 3-ketoacyl-CoA synthase (KCS), 3-ketoacyl-CoA reductase (KCR), 3-hydroxacyl-CoA dehydratase (HCD), and trans-2,3-enoyl-CoA reductase (ECR).

The crossover point is located at kcr ~ δa4.
Kcr and H4K8ac, which are enriched on this group of genes, could ensure temporal activation of late spermatogenesis genes without disturbing the germline potential.
At the PS active gene synaptonemal complex protein 3 (Sycp3), active modifications such as H3K4me3, H4K8ac, H4K16ac, and Kcr were highly accumulated at the TSS, and H3K4me2 exhibited a broader peak of enrichment near the TSS (Fig. 4a).
