Read more >> AMMAN, Jordan, 15 October 2015 - In Jordan, the European Commission supports a child cash grant programme, run by UNICEF, which is helping many families to avoid having to make some very difficult choices.
"It's easy to take water for granted, but here in Jordan one of the biggest challenges is supplying safe water to the thousands of refugees in transit sites, without placing excessive pressure on host communities," said UNICEF Representative Dominique Hyde.
"Building permits are in fact granted to Palestinians in the Jordan Valley when proper requests are made... [but] The Jordan Valley is in part a security-sensitive area, since it is a border zone (with Jordan), and this makes certain areas unsuitable for private development".
The grant is in addition to the $363 million in regular economic assistance to Jordan for the 2010 fiscal year.
