To address the malware, which was exploiting a security flaw in Java in order to install itself on Macs, Apple had been releasing Java updates through its Software Update feature.

Apple has released a fresh Java update that it says removes the Flashback Trojan on infected Macintosh computers.
Java's developer, Oracle,issued a fix to the vulnerability on 14 February, but this did not work on Macintoshes as Apple manages Java updates to its computers.
But do you really want to be bugged by pop ups warning you that there's a Java update or that your Norton Antivirus definitions are out of date?
Just like how I probably dismiss that Java update dialog box several times a week, it becomes a muscle memory reflex to dismiss notifications without consciously registering them.
And third-party apps aren't the only ones: iTunes is infamously gigantic to download, along with every system update being apparently a complete reinstall — 80MB for a Java update?
On April 12, the company released yet another Java update that "removes the most common variants of the Flashback malware".
In addition, Apple explained in its support document for the Java update, "Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java applets using the Java Preferences application.
"To protect Mac users that have installed Java, today we are releasing an updated Java malware removal tool that will check Mac systems and remove this malware if found".
