To put the "2 billion items" unit in perspective, this time last year, Amazon said its third-party marketplace sales were up 40% year-over-year to reach 1 billion items.
For the most important cost items, unit prices were determined by following the micro-costing method (Gold et al, 1996), which is based on a detailed inventory and measurement of all resources used.
