When we tested for agreement (using weighted Kappa) between patients and caregivers, we found agreement to be substantial for pain, moderate for four items (other symptoms, feeling anxious, family anxious and share feeling), fair for three items (life worthwhile, felt good and time wasted), and slight for two items (information given and practical problems).
Only the combination of 5 items and 100 respondents revealed slight deviations, however, increasing either the number of items or the sample size will allow for employing the quantiles of the respective χ 2-distribution in the usual manner.
Test-retest reliability was excellent (Kappa 0.81-1.00) for 5 items, substantial (Kappa 0.61-0.80) for 5 items, and moderate, fair or slight (Kappa ≤0.60) for the remaining 4 items tested.
