The Times's approach – favoring that which is exclusive – has a whiff of something I've noted before: The self-satisfied idea that "it's news when we say it's news".
When a new position is offered, it's news that everyone watches.
"It's news".
It's news to him.
And now it's news".
I suppose it's news.
It's news because of the manoeuvring.
