"The original target of the two rockets was a compound where insurgents were delivering accurate, direct fire on an Afghan-ISAF joint team," according to a Sunday news release by the NATO-led force, the International Security Assistance Force.
On Friday, Nato's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said the so-called "red team study" was produced by an outside contractor and was not approved or endorsed by senior Isaf officials who reviewed it.
"Yesterday a group of suspected insurgents, believed to be en route to attack a joint Afghan-ISAF unit, was engaged by an airborne weapons team resulting in a number of individuals killed and wounded," the American-led International Security Assistance Force, also known as ISAF, said in a statement released Monday.
ISAF's civil arm, the provincial reconstruction teams, are already pulling out.The effect was felt first in Kandahar and Helmand provinces in the south, where cash for civilian projects was poured in to provide economic support alongside President Barack Obama's "surge" of American troops.
