The phrase "is on trend" is correct and commonly used in written English.
It means that something is currently popular or fashionable. Example: "The latest fashion collection from this designer is on trend with its bold colors and unique prints."
In some of Unite's newest accommodation, which opened last year a stone's throw from St Pancras station, the common room is "on trend", with exposed pipework in the ceilings and retro-style sofas and stripey deckchairs across the wooden floors.
So I worked out that if you wear customised or secondhand clothes, you're taking yourself outside of that world and you'll not be judged so much on whether something is "on trend" or not.
Lourdes is on trend with the hipsters with her latest cut, which is buzzed on one side from her ear up to the temple.
Any cactus is on trend right now.
To an extent, she is on trend by default.

I'm not averse to what is on-trend now, but I would never wear a Bardot top (the chest area is tricky unless you have stayed out of sun all your life, it can look a bit Bet Lynch/Jackie Collins) or a cutout dress (but I would never have worn that anyway, too attention-grabbing – I've always preferred subtle), both big for SS15.
The Guardian's deputy fashion editor, Imogen Fox, tells us: "Since the going is soft, i'm advising a "flatform" shoe, which is on-trend, evenly distributes the weight on the grass and actually sounds like it might have something to do with racing".
Clearly this is on-trend.
