Although the recent crime drop literature has started to address aspects of inequality (e.g. Ignatans and Pease 2015) and social welfare (Knepper 2012), no empirical analyses have evaluated the extent to which the crime drop distribution across different groups within society is equitable, just or fair.
In the meantime, we need the police – anyone who thinks otherwise is woefully naive or willingly ignorant – and we should strive for a police force that is equitable, just and accountable.
