The capsaicin provocation also induced significantly greater symptoms in the chemical-sensitive group for heavy breathing (p < 0.001), difficulty getting air (p < 0.01), chest pressure (p < 0.05), phlegm (p < 0.05), throat irritation (p < 0.01), hoarseness (p < 0.01), rhinorrhoea (p < 0.001), and eye irritation (p < 0.05).
The patients' symptom scores are shown in figure 2. Women reported more problems with eye irritation (p < 0.05) compared to men, but otherwise there were no differences in symptoms between men and women.

Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests showed that the percentage emergence of side effects is higher in the metronidazole pill group (metallic taste in the mouth, nausea, and dizziness) (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p < 0.008) and the Zataria multiflora group (irritation) (p < 0.002).
In addition, a significant difference between treatment with sericin cream and cream base was found in the level of skin irritation of both arms (p = 0.013) and legs (p = 0.027) after 6 weeks of treatment.
