As outlined in the Introduction, a shift of TBE foci toward higher latitude and altitude in connection with the general warming of the European climate has been forecasted by several authors [24], [51], [52]; however, our results showed no correlation between the heterogeneous emergence of TBE in north-eastern Italy and changes in a series of climatic variables from 1950 to 2006 (Fig. 4).
The main purpose of viral surveillance was to detect the introduction or shift of sero/genotypes for describing viral trends.
