During acute inflammatory phase, intramural areas of cystic degeneration are formed in the duodenal wall which can mimic one or more pseudocysts in the pancreatic head area adjacent to the duodenum.
On histological examination, injured areas showed mucosal edema and hemorrhage, loss of villous integrity, intramural air, and areas of transmural necrosis that were separated by areas of normal 'skip' tissue, which is consistent with a diagnosis of NEC in preterm infants (Kliegman and Fanaroff, 1984; Petty and Ziegler, 2005).
In 14 patients, small anechoic areas or intramural echogenic foci were detected in areas of thickened GB wall (Fig. 1).

Adenomyomatosis of gallbladder is an acquired hyperplastic lesion, characterized by focal or diffuse thickening of the gallbladder with intramural cysts or echogenic areas with comet tail on ultrasonography.
