This virtual intimacy, say students, increases understanding of each other's lives.
"They're defining a new kind of intimacy," said Viviana Zelizer, a Princeton sociologist and author of "The Purchase of Intimacy," about the interplay between economics and relationships.
"We will continue to keep our uptown space because we like the intimacy," said Iwan Wirth, the gallery's president and co-founder.
"There's a fundamental issue of intimacy," said Susan Etlinger, an analyst at the Altimeter Group, who advises companies on how best to use the Web in their business.
"Bedrooms are most often places of intimacy," said Mr. Kaufman, who recommended choosing a color that works well with your complexion.
"We look at it in terms of enhancing intimacy," said Dr. Michael L. Krychman, Sloan's expert on the subject.
Dr. Marion Solomon, a Los Angeles psychologist and author of "Narcissism and Intimacy," said that true narcissists are startled when their spouses say they are miserable in the relationship.
"What I offer is extreme intimacy," says the young woman sitting inches away from me on a bed in an Edinburgh tenement and staring into my eyes.
"The Internet has this weird combination of anonymity and intimacy," said Steven Waldman, editor in chief of beliefnet.com, a leading faith and spirituality Web site, based in Manhattan.
The circular economy is an opportunity for businesses to differentiate from competition, increase its margin and its customer intimacy says Goetzee.
