GB conceived of the research question and oversees the broader research program, secured funding for the project, assisted in the development of interview guides and analytic frameworks, and was involved in every stage of the writing of the manuscript.
The methods included two stages: in-depth interview and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP).
Studies have used a range of data collection techniques (self-report questionnaires, checklists and comprehensive, semi-structured interviews), definitions and analytic strategies.
METHOD: This study employed qualitative methods, using semistructured interviews and narrative analytic techniques.
Reflective notes were taken immediately after the interviews [ 25], and analytic memos were recorded in a decision trail [ 33].
The data were collected by one of the authors (HC, an ICU nurse and educator) to ensure consistency and the data sources were triangulated; observations, interviews, reflective sessions and analytic memos to ensure trustworthiness.
Each day will focus on a component of the interview, including foundational aspects of oral history, project conceptualization, the interview itself, analytic and interpretive strategies, and research presentation and dissemination.
They were then sorted, coded and maintained in established files such as field files, mundane files and analytic files in an iterative process, comparing each interview with the previous interviews [ 4].
The material consisted of close to 100 hours of observations which included interviews, four hours of tape-recorded reflections, demographic data and analytic memos.
