Surgery is contraindicated for acute disease, with the exception of tracheotomy for airway obstruction and surgical intervention for large or circumferential extremity lesions causing compartment syndrome.
This multicentre randomised controlled trial, with participant and researcher concealment, will provide initial evidence of the efficacy of this intervention for large health services throughout Australia or elsewhere.
The study will inform the design and refinement of a future intervention for large-scale research and implementation.
Other factors such as ease of use by patients and providers, applicability of the intervention for larger populations and across other chronic diseases, and the cost of implementation are important concerns that may influence providers' decisions about adopting interventions in their practices.
A better understanding of these drivers is needed to develop effective nutrition interventions for this large population.
