Among the various initiatives that have been undertaken to improve the intervention description, the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) has to be highlighted as the most promising.
Whereas studies were of high quality regarding outcome operationalization and statistical analyses, overall quality was moderate to low due to poor intervention description, population characterization and potential biases.
We used the TIDieR (Template for Intervention: Description and Replication) checklist to assess the quality of description and the reproducibility of interventions.

The TIDieR (Template for Intervention Description and Replication) checklist has been developed to aid in summarising key items needed when reporting clinical trials and other well designed evaluations of complex interventions in order that findings can be replicated or built on reliably.
These frameworks include the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR), which helps describe the essential components of an intervention, and pragmatic frameworks like Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) or Pragmatic Explanatory Continuum Indicator Summary (PRECIS), which help to report study design elements and outcomes.

In order to extract the individual exercise characteristics (used as co-variates in meta-regression analysis) from each included intervention in a standardised manner, a modified version of the Template for Intervention Description and Replication checklist was used [19] (Additional file 1: Table S2).
Two items were endorsed in more than 90% of assessed QI publications (Intervention Description and Implementation).
