The authors would like to highlight that the findings of this study raise a theoretical concern regarding surgical marking during tendon operations in general, and also in particular for end-to-end repair, transfer procedures and interposition grafting, as these require the direct healing of tendon to tendon.
In our experience, compared with tendon interposition, the implant operative procedure is easier to perform (mean implant operative time, 44 minutes versus 63 minutes) and the recovery time is shorter (mean, 12 weeks versus 22 weeks).
There is interest in biologic resurfacing procedures, including the interposition of fascia, capsule, or meniscal allograft and nonprosthetic glenoid arthroplasty, or what has become known as the "ream-and-run" procedure.
