The recent growth in interest of applying this technology to studying a different aspect of the genome, namely the epigenome, requires that researchers have a good understanding of the biological processes underlying the new array technologies and their applications as well as the statistical issues involved when analysing the resulting data.
The possibility of loading a fair amount of active component of poor aqueous solubility is one of the encouraging factors on the wide spread interest of this emerging technology.
The recent market release of a new generation of supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) instruments compatible with state-of-the-art columns packed with sub-2 μm particles (UHPSFC) has contributed to the reemergence of interest in this technology at the analytical scale.
What we're finding is that there is a lot of interest in this technology to keep moisture and spilled drinks away from electronics in autonomous cars," says Neal. "Because the technology is so new, there has been some great dialogue with the scientists," she adds.
Rather than corrupt news judgment by causing editors to pander to the most base reader interests, the availability of this technology so far seems to be leading to more surgical decisions about how to cover a topic so it becomes more appealing to an online audience.
Since the data generated represent the temporal abundance of mRNA levels in the sample, measurements of the change of this abundance over the course of disease progression (or any biological process) is therefore both possible and of great scientific interest using this technology.
The proposal is to contribute to the research with a survey from an initial questionnaire about students' level of knowledge on the subject, their interest in the use of this technology and their intention to develop such systems.
Of special interest is the application of this technology to comparative genomics in a wide range of species, which should provide key information for understanding evolutionary patterns of repetitive sequences and their impact on genome evolution.
"We think that the number of people interested in this technology is in the tens of millions," Mr. Huang said.
"I can say there's a ton of interest to bring this technology to Japan," he notes.
