The proportion of people who had ever had penetrative sexual intercourse differed significantly between men (30.9%; 95% CI, 25.8 36.5) and women (9.7%; 95% CI, 6.5 14.0; P = 0.001).
The rate of modern contraceptive uptake is low, and timing of contraceptive uptake during or after first sexual intercourse differed according to marital status.
The reported age at first sexual intercourse was less than 16 years for 272 (68.7%) of the men (interquartile range: 12 16 years), the median age at first sexual intercourse did not differ by the gender of the partner.
This clearly suggests that the determinants of, and explained variance for, (secondary) sexual intercourse delay and condom use could differ between adolescents who, at baseline, have already engaged in (anal or vaginal) sexual intercourse and adolescents who have not.
Frank R. Lillie, a University of Chicago embryology professor, who wrote the first chapter, provided this description of sexual intercourse: Sex "differs from other universal organic functions such as metabolism, or irritability in requiring two individuals for its complete expression," he wrote.
Although the two surgical groups in this study are very similar, they do differ with respect to intercourse frequency and BSO status (Table 2 and 3).
This finding is consistent with the literature [ 7, 28, 30, 32] and thus confirms that our stratification by marital status was necessary, as the two groups also substantially differ in frequency of intercourse.
The HIV/STI risk-reduction and health-promotion interventions did not differ significantly on proportion of condom-protected intercourse acts, unprotected sexual intercourse, multiple partners, or insertive anal intercourse during the follow-up period.
Because the pharmacological effects and social settings of various substances differ, their effects on unprotected intercourse may vary as well.
Condom use did not differ for anal and vaginal intercourse with women (Table 4).
