A recent review of cognitive and motivational effects of small group tutorials [ 2] showed that small study groups foster interactive learning and positive cognitive effects, such as activation of prior knowledge, recall of information, individual and collaborative knowledge construction, and cognitive conflicts leading to conceptual change [ 3- 6].
It is therefore interesting to consider the problem of interactive effects of such de novo mutations.
In such environments, interactive effects as seen in this experiment should not occur.
A possible explanation for the inconsistencies observed in these studies is the presence of unexamined interactive effects with environmental factors, such as those observed in the present analysis.
